Water typically permeates most non-woven fabrics because—unlike tightly woven textiles—non-wovens are formed by bonding fibers together using heat, chemical agents, or pressure, resulting in a random, web-like structure. However, certain non-woven fabrics can undergo specific treatments to temporarily or permanently prevent the passage of moisture.
The following outlines three distinct application scenarios:
1.Non-woven Fabric (Untreated):Standard non-woven fabrics that have not undergone any special treatment allow moisture to pass through. Examples of applications for this type of product include agricultural nonwoven fabrics.

2.Non-woven Fabric (Water-Repellent Treated):Non-woven fabrics treated with special water-repellent agents effectively resist moisture penetration; however, this water-repellent effect is temporary. If the fabric remains in contact with water for an extended period, moisture will eventually begin to seep through. Examples of applications for this type of product include medical-grade non-woven fabrics.

3.Laminated Non-woven Fabric (Laminated with Plastic Film):By laminating a layer of plastic film onto the fabric, the material becomes completely waterproof, thereby effectively preventing any moisture from passing through. Examples of applications for this type of product include waterproof packaging materials.

In summary, while most non-woven fabrics are permeable to water, the application of specific treatment processes can endow them with either temporary water-repellent capabilities or complete waterproofing capabilities.
